Introduction
The majority of the classroom projectors and TV displays have an AppleTV streaming device connected to them. One of the big benefits of the AppleTV device is it allows for the capability of wirelessly connecting your Apple laptop's display to the projector or TV. No more cords or dongles! The following steps will show you how to connect your laptop's display to your room's AppleTV for wireless screen sharing.
Instructions
On your Mac, click on the Control Center icon in upper right menu bar.
Click on Screen Mirroring
Each AppleTV streaming device is named according to the room it is placed in. Find your room's AppleTV name and click on it to connect.
Wireless screen sharing to the AppleTV sharing devices is protected by a 4-digit PIN. When you go to connect to your room's AppleTV device a randomly generated code will be displayed on the projector or TV screen. On your laptop, enter the AirPlay code displayed from your projector or TV.
Your laptop will now be sharing its screen wirelessly and displayed through your projector or TV. You have the option of either mirroring your laptop's built-in display or using your projector or TV as a separate display. Most staff prefer to mirror their display.
Projector Sound Options
AppleTV streaming devices that are attached to a projector may have more limited sound output options. One option is to play the sound audio through the projector's built-in speaker. Another option is to play sound through the laptop's built-in speakers. To change the sound output options on your Mac laptop, go to System Settings. Click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the menu bar, click on System Settings.
Click on the Sound option in the left pane of the System Settings window. Under the Output tab select either your laptop's built-in speakers or your room's AppleTV AirPlay option to choose which device will be playing sound.
