Gmail’s auto-complete feature is a helpful way to more efficiently send messages to regular recipients. It saves you time and effort by automatically completing the address for you so that you don’t have to type out someone's entire email address every time you compose an email.

But, in some instances the auto-complete feature does not help at all. Most notably when you have an old/outdated or invalid addresses of someone. Having both the old/incorrect and the new addresses stored in your Gmail auto-complete list memory will only result in confusion and potential mistake.

Thankfully you can clean up and delete some of the invalid email addresses from your Gmail auto-complete or autofill list. That way, you will no longer see them when Gmail automatically fills in the recipient field of an email address from your contacts.

Here are the steps to delete email addresses from Gmail auto-complete list. Make sure you are logged into your NCS Google account first.

  • In your Chrome web browser, go to https://contacts.google.com/
  • Click on the top search bar and search for the email address you want to delete
  • Click on the contact's name or email address
  • On the upper right corner of the contact's details screen, click the 3 vertical dots "More actions" button
  • Click Delete
  • Click Delete again on the pop-up to confirm the action

Repeat the steps above to remove any other unwanted auto-complete email addresses. When you're finished you can close this Chrome tab. The next time you compose an email in Gmail the outdated/invalid email address will no longer auto-complete.
